Workshop - Initiation to Entomophagy

Theme: Why and how to eat and raise insects?

Duration: 1h + Questions. 

This workshop aims to introduce the public to the benefits of entomophagy and entomoculture.  During this class a lot of space is given to questions and discussions.  We will cover some definitions, and offer answers to questions like: are there risks to eating bugs?  What are they?  Who studied this field?  Can a vegetarian eat insects?  Do insects suffer?  How much money can I really make with bugs?  What do they taste like?  How do you use them in the kitchen?  Are all insects edible? etc.

Workshop - Urban Entomoculture 101

Theme: Life cycle of 3 insects, their different uses and overview of international projects

Duration: 1h + Questions.

This class is for you if you have heard about the benefits of entomophagy, but would like to know what insects to raise and for which purpose.  Since there are more than 2135 known edible insect species out there, INSECTO will bring your attention to three of the most prised insects of the industry.  Questions and discussions are welcome for a 30 minute period at the end of class, with some books available for consultation.

Practical Entomoculture Workshop - the Mealworm!

Theme: How to start your mealworm farm at home

Duration: 45 min + Questions.

Raising the darkling beetle larvae is pretty easy!

Here we're not going to show you rearing methods to start an industrial production and start selling insects at your local grocer.  We'll show you how easy it can be to get used to the presence of insects in your life... and then in your plate!

Practical Entomoculture Workshop - the Cricket

Come get your hands dirty at Campus MIL of University of Montreal

Duration: 2 times 1h + Questions.

Come visit the farm, it needs maintenance 2 to 3 times a week.  In a spirit of collaboration, INSECTO will give you a free training on raising crickets in exchange for some volunteer maintenance of the farm.  This should happen in 4 visits: 1h free training (+ any questions!), 1h practice with the teacher, and then 2x 1h30 visits to do regular farm maintenance, preferably in teams of two.
